Jordan Grace Owens is a Durham-based emerging artist working in multiple mediums, including painted and sewn canvas panels and articulated “paper doll” wooden constructions. Though varied in form, her work is united by a spirit of playfulness, a vibrant color palette, and a thematic exploration of fragmentation and reconstruction. Owens returned to studio work after becoming a mother, and her work evokes the visceral physicality of early motherhood. Drawing on a background in illustration, Owens creates figures and shapes that are expressive, shifting, and relational; they are suggestive of flux and a fluidity of physical form.
